Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had blood test completed because my BP had sky rocketed to 160/100. The results came back and my cholesterol is good at 172. My Hemoglobin at 11.9- slightly low (they want me to do a fecal test), Protein is 8.2 and want to follow up with more blood work and my A1C is 6.3 (I think that s what she said) so they want me to cut back on my sugar and carb intake. Do I need to be worried about anything
In my opinion, only the value of total cholesterol is not much significant, rather you should be tested for total lipid profile which includes bad cholesterol (LDL and VLDL), good cholesterol (HDL). as well as level of triglycerides. Your HbA1C level is in the normal range and I do not think to be worried about this. But as you are having high B.P. readings, you should also undergo for your baseline testing with kidney functions and baseline ECG (If indicated TMT and/or echocardiography) along with lipid profile. In the meantime, treatment of raised B.P. is also indicated.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
